STRIGA is an exploration Role Playing Game where you and your friends play as extractionists adventurers exploring the never-ending ruins of a collapsed city, often referred to as the "Spiral City".

"Many delve into the underground structures of the Spiral City, exploring ancient and magnificent places, remnants of a lost civilization, to find fortune and long forgotten magical artifacts.
Many only find death, often at the hands of giant warlock creatures named “Strigae”."

STRIGA is an easy-to-learn OSR RPG, with a focus on exploration, journaling, and creativity.
Players will delve down an uncharted territory, where fortune may lay next extreme danger. In this environment exploration, problem-solving, and creativity are not just encouraged -they are a requirement if you want to survive the Spiral City!

Easy-to-learn: 44 pages of streamlined rules with a familiar "roll under" d20 system, designed to be simple, intuitive, and familiar. With fast and customizable Character Creation, you can set up a game of STRIGA in almost no time!

OSR-inspired: From the all time classics to the new golden games of OSR, STRIGA takes inspiration from the old school gaming philosophy, with great emphasis on exploration, roleplaying, and customization of characters.  The spirit of old school RPGs is coupled with modern ideas like the Armor system, action Skills, and Stress mechanics.

Journaling and Exploration: STRIGA features a journaling system to help players get creative between sessions. In STRIGA, the journal is both a real physical book where you will write down and sketch your journey, and an actual in-game item owned by your Character! That means that should your Character face an untimely demise, their memories and knowledge will be carried by future Characters and party members!

Built for creativity: With journaling prompts and mechanics, random tables for building hex maps and backgrounds, customizable character equipments and titles, STRIGA is built for all the creative minds out there.

A setting and a system: STRIGA can be used with its original setting of the Spiral City, and with entirely new homebrew settings! In pure OSR philosophy, STRIGA is easy to hack and modify, and you also have a license to create your own stuff - for or from -  STRIGA!

The "STRIGA License" is an open license that encourages the creation of all sorts of 3rd party content. You can hack, modify, and create everything you want with STRIGA's game system -even commercial material!
And that's not all! There's also a free Creative Kit packed with artworks you can use in your own projects!
There's also a "Compatible with STRIGA" logo!

I read it and thought it was really cool. I really liked the context of the game; simple, brief and evocative. The art is also quite evocative. I felt like playing it. ^^

When I first read it, I think I identified two errors in the text:

  • On page 8, it says to buy additional equipment with 20 Coins. On the next page, it says that the characters start with 3d10 Coins. I imagine the first one is correct because it also appears in the additional equipment section (page 11).
  • Raised Skeleton (page 40) has the peculiarity of the Striga's legs.

Regarding the mechanics, I was unsure whether the armor values aren't too high to the point of slowing down the game, especially for the bosses, but I suppose the damage explosion and the damage advantage rules can balance this out. I need to test it out to evaluate it in practice.

I especially liked that the game has an open license. I hope to do something for Striga in the near future. ^^

Well done. You made a really cool game!

Hi Bruno, first and foremost, thank you for all the kind words, they really mean a lot!
Also, thank you for pointing out the errors! I will be fixing them in the 1.1 PDF of the game as soon as possible.

Regarding the "page 8 Coins"; the 20 Coins for Additional Equipment are a plus, you get them in addition to your "starting 3d10 Coins".  So basically, you get to spend 20 coins before the adventure starts, and then you get an additional 3d10 Coins when your adventure starts. Hope that helps!
I will probably  add this to a FAQ document, thanks for pointing out!

Regarding the open license,  I'm very happy you liked it! I am also considering  the possibility of running a jam for STRIGA in the near future, so in that case, see you there!

Thanks for the clarification, Novecento.

About the jam, it would be a great motivation to produce something for Striga. ^^
